Harry's Maths Learning Story

Learner: Harry L          Learning Coach: Bex Remington          Date: 25 June 2015
Learning Area: iDevelop - Maths
Learning Observed
Harry had learnt to count on from the biggest number on materials (either counters or fingers) so now it was time for begin adding on by creating images in her head.  He starts with a picture of the biggest number and then adds on by imaging more counters being added to his big number.  We discussed that sometimes it is easier to close our eyes and nod our heads as we count on.  Harry can now use this technique with confidence and has moved on to adding numbers by grouping 10s.  Harry is able to add bigger numbers by creating groups of 10 first and using his facts to 10.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Harry is developing his capabilities in maths and is beginning to be able to confidently add and subtract in his head.  He is demonstrating his ability to think as he imagines what the numbers would look like in his head.  He is able to understand language, symbols and text for addition and subtraction and understands what he need to do in order to get the right answer.
Next Learning Steps
  • Practice his addition and subtraction in his head
  • Begin working out harder sums in his head
  • Use flash-cards with a partner and see how quickly he can work out the answers

Mind Lab CCD Trip

The CCD Trip To Mind Lab On Thursday 6th July 2017 it was CCD it is an acronym for connecting community day!  There were  6 things to go to, mind lab, master chefs,  survive in the wild,  anberry farm, drama, breakout ed, but some of them have a costing, e.g Mind Lab costs, $20.  The one I chose was Mind Lab I chose it because I wanted to learn more about robotics!   So there were 2 jobs to do, there was the reporter, recorder, and photography. I was a photographer.    When we got there we sat down on the mat and waited for a few mins. while the other kids were sitting down I was taking photographs of the things that were in the building!  The thing I liked about the building was.. that they had a lot of room to be creative in and also what I liked about the building was...
