Learning Coach Author: Mrs Gernhoefer

Date: Term 1, 2017
Harry has been learning about Maori Myths and Legends in iExperience. The learning coaches took him through the differences between a Myth and Legend. His learning coach read the book “Hinapau” to the class. Harry’s task was to listen to the story and draw inspiration from it in order to draw a picture based on the story “Hinepau”. This task encourages him to make connections between the text and knowledge of drawing.
After listening to the story, Harry was inspired to draw a volcano. He showed his capabilities in drawing by adding beautiful Koru patterns to it to represent smoke coming out of the volcano.

Next Step: Harry’s next step is to colour in his picture. After he colours his picture he is going to cut his picture into strips so that he can weave. The end result will look similar to the picture below.

The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose? The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Joshua & Harry decided on creating a dice to use in a game. Joshua & Harry had to use the website TinkerCad to design their dice. They had to use the pre...
