Harry's Narrative Assessment - Writing - March 2015

Learner:  Harry Lang                                             Date: March 2015
Learning Area: iDevelop - Literacy                      Learning Coach: John Dyer
Learning Observed
Harry has already demonstrated some lovely qualities this year. He is polite, has a lovely sense of humour and asks questions about his learning. This has been evident in his learning during writing in Term 1. We have embarked on a series of writing workshops about narrative story writing. Harry has begun to understand the importance of writing from personal experiences when writing. He is including his thoughts, wonderings and feelings and has been introduced how to ‘show not tell’ the reader what is happening. He is also learning how to ask questions of the reader in his writing. Harry has been able to make these improvements in his writing due to a willingness to ask questions about next learning steps and be happy to take on board suggestions for improvements. Harry’s thoughtful and kind attitude has served her well and i am looking forward to working with him more as we continue on our learning journey.
Evidence of learning

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
It has been great to see Harry ‘relating well with others’ and ‘participating and contributing’ effectively in his learning during our Literacy lessons. He has demonstrated a ‘capability’ to develop ideas and write effectively to a conclusion by planning, ‘collaborating’ with other learners and coaches, and caring about his work.
Next Learning Steps
Harry is encouraged to continue developing his confidence in his learning. His ability to see the best in things around him is a valuable asset. Harry should now see where he can use his learning to tackle projects in iExplore that will be viewed by our wider school community.

We initially learnt about the Thinker’s Key called ‘BAR’. BAR stands for Bigger, Add, Replace. To practise, the learners had to pick either a pen, lunch box or tennis racquet to make a feature bigger, add to the item and replace something. The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose? The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Joshua & Harry decided on creating a dice to use in a game. Joshua & Harry had to use the website TinkerCad to design their dice. They had to use the pre...
