Ormiston Working Icon curiosity.jpgThis term our learners developed their curiosities in narrative writing. Harry participated in workshops to plan, write, edit and present his writing.  The learners were introduced to narrative structure and language features.  Harry used feedback provided by the Learning Coach and his peers to make improvements to his overall performance.  The use of a google document allowed Mrs Moopanar to provide ongoing feedback to the learners regarding their narrative content and organisation.  Harry collaborated with other learners to practice and apply his presentation and writing skills.  The learners used devices to publish their narratives and used these publishings to observe, notice and make changes to their narratives. With support and guidance Harry was able to share his knowledge and use appropriate structure and language to inform the audience.  It was great to see Harry practice and apply his writing skills to develop an overall curiosity both at writing and presenting to inform.  Ka pai!

Joshua and Harry's 3D Printing Learning Story

Learners: Joshua & Harry     Learning Coach: T.Dillner            Date: 21.9.15 Learning Area: Technology - 3D Printing Learning Observed Joshua & Harry chose to participate in 3D Printing during iExperience during Week 7-10 this term. We initially learnt about the Thinker’s Key called ‘BAR’. BAR stands for Bigger, Add, Replace. To practise, the learners had to pick either a pen, lunch box or tennis racquet to make a feature bigger, add to the item and replace something. The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose? The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Joshua & Harry decided on creating a dice to use in a game.
